The Institute of Population Health welcomes members from the ten faculties currently associated with the Institute; and is open to those who are active in the field of population health, based on the criteria outlined in the Membership Categories below.

Founding Member
A Founding Member is a Principal Scientist, Senior Administrator or significant
contributor within the Institute of Population Health who contributed significantly
to the establishment and development of IPH in its formative years.
Founding Members: Dr. Denise Alcock, Dr. Nancy Edwards, Dr. Daniel Krewski, Dr. Ian McDowell and Dr. Peter Walker.
Scientist Emeritus
The category is reserved for retired Principal Scientists who meet the University of Ottawa criteria for Professor Emeritus.

Honorary Member
This category recognizes and honours individuals who have had a distinguished career and have made a significant contribution to population health. Their affiliation with IPH is in an advisory capacity.

An IPH Principal Scientist*
- holds a regular faculty appointment at the University of Ottawa;
- is a principal or co-investigator on at least one population health related research grant;
- is authoring or co-authoring at least one scientific paper annually in the area of population health, specifying your affiliation with IPH;
- is presenting at least one seminar in IPH during period of appointment; and
- contributing to training of highly qualified colleagues, scholars and staff by teaching, supervising & mentoring;
- actively participates and contributes to IPH activities;
- all those who are residents at the Institute will contribute to IPH funding based on the agreed upon policy;
- will become members of the Faculty of Graduate Studies in order to supervise students.
If not all criteria are met at the time of the appointment, there should be a reasonable expectation that they will be met within the period of appointment.
Visiting Scientist*
- holds a visiting faculty appointment;
- is a principal, co-investigator or active collaborator on at least one population health related research grant;
- is authoring or co-authoring at least one scientific paper annually in the area of population health, specifying your affiliation with IPH;
- is presenting at least one seminar in IPH during period of appointment; and
- is contributing to training of highly qualified personnel by teaching, supervising & mentoring;
- is actively participating in IPH activities.
If not all criteria are met at the time of the appointment, there should be a reasonable expectation that they will be met within the period of appointment.
Affiliate Scientist*
- holds a regular or adjunct faculty appointment at a university in Canada or abroad;
- is a co-investigator on a research grant or active collaborator on a research project within IPH; and
- is a co-author for at least one scientific paper in the area of population health during the period of appointment, specifying your affiliation with IPH;
- is encouraged to contribute to the training of highly qualified personnel in population health at IPH.
If not all criteria are met at the time of the appointment, there should be a reasonable expectation that they will be met within the period of appointment.

Research Fellow
- is a co-investigator on a research grant or active collaborator on a research project within IPH; and
- is co-author of at least one scientific paper in the area of population health during the period of appointment, specifying your affiliation with IPH;
- has a demonstrated publication record.
Post Doctoral Fellow
- holds a Ph.D. or equivalent in an area relevant to Population Health and working under the supervision of an Institute scientist;
- conducts research in population health under the supervision of a scientist within IPH.
Staff
Includes full-time employees in IPH working in an administrative capacity
in support of IPH projects or in a scientific capacity participating in
research projects and scientific publications within IPH (part-time staff
can become members at the request of their supervisor)

Scholars
Includes all graduate students enrolled in the Ph.D. Program in Population
Health or graduate students working on a population health related thesis
supervised by an IPH scientist
*Appointments are for a period of 3 years and renewable upon review that criteria for appointment continue to be met.
